eOn Communications Wins FAA Contract for Communications Systems Support

Memphis, Tenn., October 5, 2000 - eOn Communications Corporation(TM) (Nasdaq:EONC), a leading provider of unified voice, e-mail and Internet communications systems, announced that the Federal Aviation Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded eOn a contract for communications system support services for the agency's nationwide network of Automated Flight Service Stations (AFSS).

The professional services contract between eOn and the FAA encompasses logistical, training and engineering support for the eOn voice and data call routing, switching and information management systems in use at all sixty-one AFSS facilities nationwide. The one-year contract took effect on October 1, 2000.

The mission of the AFSS network is to provide pilots with timely access to flight plan processing services, pre-flight weather briefings, broadcasts of aviation weather and national airspace information, search and rescue communications and lost aircraft orientation. The FAA purchased and installed eOn's integrated communications switching systems for the AFSS in 1998 and 1999 as part of an initiative to upgrade its pilot management system with year 2000 compliant technology that also improved performance and added computer telephony capabilities.
